With their heightened scent skills, dogs are believed to be able to smell certain chemicals or hormonal changes that indicate illness or pregnancy. Dogs are also more aware of slight behavioral changes that may indicate an oncoming epileptic or emotional episode, such as pupil dilation, facial expressions or particular movements.
Atmospheric Changes
Dogs that show anxiety before a thunderstorm are exhibiting a sense of atmospheric conditions imperceptible to humans. Some dogs seem to sense earthquakes before they happen through either small vibrations or changes in the air, although research is inconclusive. You may think you’re treating all your loved ones the same, but dogs notice if there’s inequity in your affection or generosity. Studies show that dogs presented with someone sharing with another person and someone refusing to share will more often go to the person who shared when both people call for them. Other research suggests that dogs react if one is rewarded but not the other for the same behaviors.
Attitude
